And more than 20 percent—roughly 25 million households—report reducing or forgoing necessities such as food and medicine to pay an energy bill.

African-American families and rural households are more likely than other groups to spend a high percentage of household income on energy. It’s time for states and communities to put policies in place that will improve energy affordability and access and advance energy equity. On the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in remote South Dakota, where many tribal residents live without electricity in their homes, community members are tackling this problem head on. Pine Ridge received its first transmission line in 2018, but the cost of installing lines and meters has been prohibitive for many households, given that more than half the reservation lives below the poverty line.

In the late 1990s, community member and entrepreneur Henry Red Cloud partnered with the Colorado nonprofit Trees, Water &. People, which had foundation funding to install portable solar heating systems in Pine Ridge at no cost to homeowners. As of November 2019, 500 homes had Red Cloud’s off-grid solar furnaces and they have reduced their heating costs by up to 30 percent. In the face of buy antibiotics, municipalities, corporations and community organizations have stepped up to address inequities in utility services—from free internet access for K-12 and college students, to bans on water and energy shut offs for people unable to pay their bills.

Yet many of these protections are set to expire on arbitrary dates even though the need for them will surely continue. While the imperative to make access to utility services more equitable became more urgent during the amoxil, the real challenge is making them affordable and accessible over the long term. As the nation begins building toward an equitable and lasting recovery, we must ensure everyone’s basic needs for water, energy, and Internet are met, and that investments in infrastructure are advanced with an equity frame.

Returning to the way things were is not acceptable. To build healthier communities, we must advance equitable public infrastructure. Learn more about the connection between public infrastructure and health equity..

Your risk of dying in a fire in your home falls by 55 percent when there’s a working smoke alarm present, per the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). People with where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa hearing loss may not be ableto hear standard smoke detector alarms.(Photo courtesy FEMA) And for many people, the attention-grabbing blare of a fire alarm is all you need. If you have impaired hearing, though, the din of these life-saving devices may not be an effective alert to the presence of smoke, fire or carbon monoxide. Alarms with flashing lights, as well as special vibrating alarms designed to wake someone who’s sleeping, are available for people who are deaf or have a hearing impairment. Here’s what you need to know to ensure you have an where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa alarm that provides you with the alert you need.

Why it matters “Today more than ever, it’s important for residents to have the earliest possible notification of an emergency,” says Sharon Cooksey, a fire safety educator at Kidde, an alarm manufacturer. That’s because escape time is lower now than previously needed—just two to three minutes—due to more fast-burning synthetic materials in homes, she says. €œThis makes a quick where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa evacuation a top priority,” Cooksey notes. People at the highest risk of being harmed or dying in a fire include children, people who are under the influence of drugs/alcohol, and people with hearing loss, statistics show. Choose a smoke alarm that’s suitable for your hearing loss If you have high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss due to either age or noise exposure, an ordinary alarm may not give you the alert you need, says audiologist Rich Panelli of Nevada ENT.

“The risk of where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa a normal alarm is that some produce only a high-frequency sound, and some do not produce an alarm loud enough for [people with] a severe to profound hearing loss to pick up,” Panelli says. This is particularly significant at night, when people are likely to remove their hearing aids. “NFPA advises that older adults or other people who are hard of hearing (those with mild to severe hearing loss) can use a device that emits a mixed, low-pitched sound,” Cooksey says. Smoke alarms where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa when you're hard of hearing. Options There are a few different options available, including.

Strobe lights. Instead of relying simply on sound, the flash from strobe alarms gives a visual cue about where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa dangers. If you’re counting on a strobe alarm for nighttime, when you might be asleep, look for one that has an intensity high enough to wake someone up, advises the NFPA. And be aware that older adults may be less responsive to strobe alarms, Cooksey points out. Vibration where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa.

Sleeping is a particularly high-risk time when it comes to fires. Fires during sleeping hours, between 11 p.m. And 7 where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa a.m. Account for 47 percent of fatal fires in residences, according to FEMA. Alarms that make the pillow or bed vibrate (often referred to as “bed shakers”) help wake people up.

Interconnected alarms where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa. €œAlarms that cater to someone with severe to profound hearing loss include a combination of alerting devices, usually in one system,” Panelli says. With this system, when one alarm goes off, all of them do—the bed shakes, lights flash, sounds blare, and so on. Smart advice where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa from FEMA. Whichever alarm system you select, make sure everyone in the house knows what signal (whether it’s light, sound, vibration, or a combo) to expect, Cooksey recommends.

What to look for in alarms for people with hearing loss It can be helpful to connect with your hearing specialist to ask what type of alarm they believe is best-suited for your particular type of hearing loss. €œWhen considering alerting systems, where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa it is important to remember every patient is unique,” Panelli says. Here’s what else to keep in mind when it comes to fire alarms. You need more than one. If you have several floors, you’ll need an alarm in each level (except for the attic), where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa Cooksey says.

Make sure to have one in every bedroom, she says. You’ll need to test them regularly. That way, where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa you’ll know the alarm is working. Cooksey recommends a weekly test. Make sure the alarm is reputable.

€œAlways look for alarms that have the label of a recognized testing laboratory, such as UL,” Cooksey recommends where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa. You’ll find alarms that meet the UL standards for people who are deaf or hard of hearing from BRK Electronics, Gentex Corporation, Kidde Fire Safety, and Menards, Inc., notes the NFPA. Note. This guidance is where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa for households. People who own businesses like hotels must follow ADA laws.

CO detectors for people with hearing loss Carbon monoxide, or CO, is a colorless, odorless gas produced from fossil-burning fuels used in furnaces, boilers, water heaters and fireplaces. Depending upon where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa where you live, state or city laws may require you to have a working CO detector installed in your home. Even if they don't, it's a good idea to have one. Experts recommend installing a CO detector at least 15 feet from the entrance of each bedroom as well as one on every level of your home. Much like smoke alarms for individuals with hearing loss, where can i buy amoxil over the counter usa carbon monoxide detectors are available with strobe lights and vibrating devices.

NFPA codes also apply to these devices, which means these appliances must emit a loud, low-frequency signal. For more information, see the NFPA's page on fire safety and hearing loss..

Oscar Health's net loss narrowed 9% year-over-year, with an increase in policy premium Cialis 5mg price in canada revenue squeezing the New York City-based insurtech's losses to buy amoxil with prescription $87.3 million during the first quarter of 2021.During the first quarter ended March 31, Oscar generated $369.3 million in revenue, up 319% from $88.1 million during the same period last year. Much of the revenue was driven by policy premium growth, which increased 44% year-over-year to $823 million. The company credited the growth to an increase in membership, and a decline in reliance buy amoxil with prescription on reinsurance.

During the call, CEO Mario Schlosser said the company was on a path to achieve profitability by 2023. The amoxil's disruption of care delivery models, combined with a heightened interest in risk-bearing relationships, would be key for helping the company grow going forward, he said. "Post-amoxil, you've got the shift to virtual delivery buy amoxil with prescription of care, but you've also got the shift towards a more value-based care, more risk-taking," Schlosser said.

"Obviously, this is starting in government business, Medicare Advantage, but I think it's making its way more and more into the commercial business as well." Membership grew to 542,220, up nearly 29% from 420,552 during the same time in 2020. Medicare Advantage enrollees more than doubled year-over-year to 3,628, and buy amoxil with prescription the startup's new Cigna+Oscar partnership also counted nearly 3,600 beneficiaries since the start of the year. The lion's share of the company's membership continues to lie in individual and small group, however, with total enrollees in this sector coming to about 535,000.

Here are five things to know from the company's first-quarter earning call. 1. Schlosser credited the ACA's special enrollment period with helping add 50,000 new members during the first quarter, and he anticipates the advance premium tax credits will help grow membership even further going forward.

Florida, Texas and California now represent the areas with the largest number of Oscar enrollees. So far, new members are not sicker than previously expected, and the company has not yet experienced adverse selection, he said. These members are also generally coming to Oscar directly, rather than through a broker, and are choosing the startup even though it does not often offer the cheapest plan in a market.

"In terms of the shift towards higher premium plans, that genuinely makes us think that it's important to have a model where you deliver a great member experience, where people love model more than price," Schlosser said. 2. After the company's initial public offering in March, and increasing profitability, Oscar cut its reliance on reinsurance partners for the year, Chief Financial Officer Scott Blackley said.

Reinsurers essentially take a portion of a member's premium for assuming some of their risk. In 2020, Oscar passed on 77% of its premiums to reinsurers. During the first quarter, the company ceded 44% of policy premiums.

"We're not saying that we won't go back and use quota share, but I think in the near-term we're comfortable having a lower percentage," Blackley said. "I'd expect that we would dynamically manage that going forward." 3. Oscar plans to start next year with at least 72,000 enrollees on its +Oscar insurance technology services business.

In addition to including members from third-party customers, like Health First Health Plans and Cigna+Oscar, the company will also count its own members as customers on this platform, which represents a strategic departure from the partnership strategy outlined in its S-1. The company will count 37,000 new Medicare Advantage members through its partnership with Health First, and 20,000 individual market lives on this platform. Schlosser added that the company has built provider-sponsored health plans with the Cleveland Clinic, ACHN in South Florida and Montefiore.

"The next phase of growth, for the +Oscar business, will come from arrangements with providers looking to be at-risk either through provider-sponsored health plans, or from dedicated payers, particularly in Medicare Advantage, individual and small employer," Schlosser said. 4. Oscar has now scaled its virtual primary care product across 82 counties.

When its members use the Oscar Medical Group providers on the platform, Schlosser said they are 10% more likely to retain Oscar as their insurer, compared with those who did not use the digital program. The company incentivizes members to sign up for the virtual care program by offering them "dynamic discounts" on primary care services, and often free recommended secondary services, like lab tests. 5.

The company's medical loss ratio, or MLR, which measures how much of every dollar an insurer spends on its members' care, came in at 74.4%. Schlosser said he expected to end the year with an MLR closer to 80%, as non-buy antibiotics utilization picks up during the second half of 2021. Low utilization was offset by high buy antibiotics costs that peaked in January, Schlosser said..

Oscar Health's net loss narrowed 9% year-over-year, with an increase in policy premium revenue how much does amoxil cost per pill squeezing the New York City-based insurtech's losses to $87.3 million during the first quarter of 2021.During the first quarter ended March 31, Oscar generated $369.3 million in revenue, up 319% from $88.1 million during the same period last year. Much of the revenue was driven by policy premium growth, which increased 44% year-over-year to $823 million. The company credited the growth to an increase in membership, how much does amoxil cost per pill and a decline in reliance on reinsurance. During the call, CEO Mario Schlosser said the company was on a path to achieve profitability by 2023.

The amoxil's disruption of care delivery models, combined with a heightened interest in risk-bearing relationships, would be key for helping the company grow going forward, he said. "Post-amoxil, you've got the shift to virtual delivery of care, but you've also got the how much does amoxil cost per pill shift towards a more value-based care, more risk-taking," Schlosser said. "Obviously, this is starting in government business, Medicare Advantage, but I think it's making its way more and more into the commercial business as well." Membership grew to 542,220, up nearly 29% from 420,552 during the same time in 2020. Medicare Advantage enrollees more than doubled year-over-year to 3,628, and the startup's new Cigna+Oscar partnership also counted nearly 3,600 beneficiaries since the how much does amoxil cost per pill start of the year.

RESEARCH

My research is interdisciplinary and multi-level, and it coalesces around the broad areas of strategy, technology and innovation. Strategic innovation is the process by which an organization reinvents or redesigns its strategy to drive change, enhance value creation across stakeholders, and, ultimately, to sustain itself. Thus, it focuses on the art, science, and process of building, implementing, and constantly evaluating strategy in organizational settings. It integrates traditional approaches to strategic management, with the tools, frameworks, and values related to design thinking and innovation. As my record indicates, most of my research focuses specifically on the way information technology is used in organizational settings to help organizations achieve competitive advantage. I look toward the future, it is at this intersection and integration of disciplines and “schools of thought” that great opportunity for impact and contribution exists.

My passion is to understand how organizations can improve their capacity to innovate, change, and reinvent themselves through a more effective strategic innovation process, and re-conceptualizing the role of information technology. By developing and cultivating their strategic innovation capability, organizations will sustain themselves and create greater value for a broader range of stakeholders. While using theories and frameworks from diverse disciplines (strategy, social and cognitive psychology, innovation management, information systems), I examine how strategy and innovation occur within individuals, teams, organizations, inter-firm relationships, and even value chains and how it ultimately impacts value creation for diverse stakeholders. In doing so, I explore strategic innovation in both established and entrepreneurial firms and at multiple levels of analysis (network, inter-firm, organizational, and individual).

I resist reductionism when studying strategic innovation, and have a strong bias toward holistic and systems orientations to understand organizational systems and the inherently complex process of strategic innovation. In most cases, I explore these issues through in-depth, longitudinal qualitative case studies and have a strong action research orientation, though I believe strongly in the power of both qualitative and quantitative techniques if adequately applied. My current and future research streams are mentioned below.

  1. Strategy Making Processes – In this stream I investigate the process of strategy making. and utilize an action research approach to examine it in its real world context and contribute to our collective understanding of how we can do it better.
  2. Innovation Management Processes – I focus specifically on design thinking and also utilize an action research methodology to contribute to our collective understanding of its efficacy and explore methods for making it even more useful in organizational settings.
  3. Strategic Innovation – This stream focuses on the linkages between strategy making and innovation management in organizational settings.

I teach Strategic Management by integrating traditional strategic management frameworks and design thinking. The traditional strategic management frameworks are useful for helping students understand what strategy is and for assessing “as-is” states of organizations, but in my mind it falls short when helping to guide the creation of strategic priorities, initiatives, and measures (that move beyond incremental adjustments) as part of a strategic planning process. Therefore, to fill this gap, I utilize design thinking in the formulation stages to support ideation and support implementation efforts. Within strategic management I teach the following courses:

  • MBA 5750 – At the graduate level I push much of the content online and focus class time on the class project. Students are divided into teams and have an external client for which they are responsible for developing a strategic plan.
  • MGT 4750 – At the Undergraduate level I divide the course in two halves. The first focuses on learning the traditional strategic management frameworks. The second half focuses on applying the frameworks to a real life strategic planning project.

This course explores individual level factors that can impede and enhance creativity, and then does a deep dive on the design thinking process. We conclude with a short module on the impact of the organizational environment for supporting design oriented work. Like most of my classes, this is also centered on a real world project with external clients.
